About Noony

Sabaidee, ya’ll!

Read about the origins of the moniker “Noony” here.

Political refugee.
Iron Chef in a floral apron.
Outdoorswoman.
Scientist.
Occasionally moonlighting as a professor of Public Health.

Random fact: three aquatic turtles found their way into my life.  I believe my animal spirit is a turtle – introverted and resilient, they are true trudgers of the animal kingdom.

Most of these posts are ruminations on events long past.  What can I say… I am a nostalgic person.

The Cast

I have some reoccurring characters in my tales and, rather than type a description of that person each time I mention them, I thought I would help you keep track here.  The list will be updated as new characters arrive on scene.

Pa Boun – My second mother/Dad’s elder sister (Pa = “aunt”)

Loung Lay – Pa Boun’s husband (Loung = “uncle”)

Loung Phoui – Dad’s second eldest brother

Pa Thom – One of Mom’s elder sisters; lives in France

Mae Boun – Mom’s best friend and my godmother; lives in Laos (Mae = “mother”)

  1. I like this “about” description, Noony! But seriously, what free time?! You sound very busy! Thank you for visiting and I look forward to reading your blog.

    1. I usually have several post ideas going at once and somehow that helps me stay a little bit ahead. I actually have more down time than usual right now, but that will change pretty soon. Hope I can keep up – it’s been a lot of fun!

  2. Nice blog, Noony! I’m glad I found you through Angie’s Fiesta Fridays. Great to know you work in the heath sciences, I used to be a research chemist myself.

    1. I honestly meet the sweetest, most creative people through Angie. That Fiesta Friday idea of hers is so clever. Thanks for following me. I would love to hear about your experiences as a research chemist.

    1. Thanks so much for the nomination! I will find some time to write an acceptance soon. Congratulations on being nominated yourself. 🙂

  3. Hi Noony,

Have you heard of “My Writing Process blog tour”? I hadn’t heard of it before, but it sounds really interesting! It’s another way for us bloggers to continue to get to know one another and be introduced to other blogs.

I’ve been invited to join the “My Writing Process” blog tour and have accepted for May 25, 2014. This tour rolls out across three new bloggers’ sites each week. So, I can invite three writers to carry the tour forward. I really admire your blog and think it would be interesting for more bloggers to hear about your writing process! I guess it’s essentially a chain letter of sorts, but a little bit more sophisticated!

Your date would be June 2, 2014. Please let me know if you’re interested. If you choose not to participate, that is completely fine with me too. Please just let me know, so I can ask other bloggers.

    This is how it works:

Follow the steps below and post to your blog on the date given. Acknowledge the person who invited you and mention that the post is part of the My Writing Process Blog Tour; answer the four questions provided below, nominate (ask) three bloggers to follow with short bios and blog links for all.

FIRST: I’ll feature you on my blog on May 25, stating you’re next. Then it’s over to you to prepare your own blog post.

STEP ONE: Acknowledge the person & site that involved you in the blog tour. That’s me! Here’s the link to my blog: http://foodieonboard.com (Of course you already know this! ☺)

STEP TWO: Answer the 4 questions below about your writing process:

    1) What am I working on?
    2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
    3) Why do I write what I do?
    4) How does your writing process work?

STEP THREE: Say who is on next week (your own chosen three) – give a brief bio and link to the website for each of them. Their date would be June 9, 2014.

Here’s a link to the blog tour post from the person who nominated the person who invited me (boy, that was a mouthful…lol!) , so you can see how it works:

    Seems pretty easy!

Please let me know if you’d like to participate ASAP, so I can ask others if need be. Thanks so much,

    Julianna

    1. Hi, Julianna! Thanks for inviting me on this tour. The writing process is something I would definitely like to explore and discuss with other writers. Plus, this activity doesn’t seem too painful, haha. Thanks again, and I will be joining you June 2!

      1. Great Noony! I am so happy that you would like to do this!! I think your blog is so wonderful and I love that you write about so many other things as well as food! That’s why I thought of you when Lori asked me to participate. Thanks so much for getting back to me so soon and I will feature you on May 26th! Cheers, Julianna
